What to do Before, During, and After an Earthquake



What to do before an earthquake?

  • Prepare an emergency kit which consist of water, food, medicine, flashlight, whistle and aid kit.

  • Mount heavy objects to the wall to reduce chances of getting toppled over.

  • Make sure to know the nearest evacuation area at your place.

  • Have a family plan on where to go after the earthquake.

  • Gather contact details of emergency responder from the public service and government.

  • Be informed on how to respond during earthquake.


What to do during an earthquake?

  • Do not panic.

  • Go under to any strong materials to protect yourself from falling objects.

  • If possible, go in a corner where a foundation exists or other strong support.

  • Duck, cover and hold; make sure that one of your leg is positioned at 90 degrees, and your head and nape is covered.

  • Stay away from falling and fragile objects like window, ceiling fan, light bulb, chandelier, and many more.

  • Do not move until the earthquake has not stop yet.

  • Do not use elevators.

  • If inside a vehicle, go in a clear opening and do not exit the car.

  • If it is still possible, turn off possible threats to the surroundings (e.g. gas and electricity).


What to do after an earthquake?

  • After the earthquake stops, evacuate to the nearest evacuation center.

  • Be updated on news and what to which is provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, who will respond.

  • Contact your family members.

  • Check yourself and others.
